| | Concerned bird lover I started to cut down an old conifer that was outside my window when I looked inside I saw an empty nest with one little blue egg inside (poss blackbird egg) I am really worried as have not noticed that the blackbird has ever been back to sit on it. Should I do something? Could it be abandoned? There has never to my knowledge been a nest in there before so thought it was safe to cut it down. As it is right outside my window I thought no bird would choose that to nest in due to noise etc. How long do I give it before I can safely say that it is abandoned? |

| | | Re: Concerned bird lover You say you only started to cut down the tree if the branch containing the last is still intact then I suggest you contact your local RSPB they will be able to help you with identification and also advise on further action.
On the other hand if you have already cut down the tree then I suggest you try to put the nest back in a position as close to where you found it and hope for the best |

| | | Re: Concerned bird lover Possibly Blackbird. In my mums garden over the last month, she has had a pair of blackbirds nest twice so far and both nests have been deserted on very cold and windy nights. Another nest has been built over the weekend so hopefully it will be third time lucky although this nest is by far the most exposed. |

| | | Re: Concerned bird lover my blackbirds had no luck last year and still nest in the same exposed bush every year. This year i had to give them a little hand, i cut a branch from another tree and stuck it in the space just to disguise the nest abit, also we have sensor lights and the local cats scarper as soon as it comes on. So this year we had success yippeeee ! 5 little ones hopping around the garden, mum an dad feeding them. they slept in the patio pots near our conservatory first night. Perhaps mum and dad caught on if the light comes on the cat legs it and the dog is out there investigating. We also bought live maggots from the tackle shop (very cheap) and put them in a garden tray on the garden table. The birds went mad for them and very good for the chics. With the hot whether worms are few and far between. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
