Well,
Had good luck this year with a bluetit pair in one of my camera boxes.
All going well, she was sat on at least 5 eggs.
But, last week we found the male dead, looks like he was got by one of the b???dy local cats.
So, she carries on, and hatching started this past few days.
Now, she's got at least 8 chicks in there as far as I can see.
We always put out live mealworms this time of year, and have a mix of mini and normal worms.
The sparrow colonies are doing great on them, but I'm finding the bluetit will not feed locally, and always tends to fly off quite far to bring food back.
It's frustrating, as although her nest feed rate is quite high, it can't be up to having a pair feeding.
Any ideas how I can get her to take the live food that's more local?
I've even though about somehow sticking the worms to a local tree somehow, but not thought that plan through very well yet.
Feel free to take a look:-
Nest Box Feeds
Feed in Greattit1 (eventhough it's a bluetit!!!)
Cheers,
Steve
