Another eagle poisoned

A golden eagle found dead in March has been confirmed as having been poisoned. The radio-tagging of eagles, to study their movements, is proving to be quite a useful aid in trying to identify those estates responsible, helping to find birds that otherwise would probably have lain undiscovered.
Unfortunately, successful prosecutions are few.

this quote from the article says it all:-
''The suspicion has long been that carcasses treated with poison are left out on hillsides to reduce the population of birds that prey on the likes of the grouse chicks, which are integral to sporting estates.''
They just dont care do they, whoever is doing this, but its not your ordinary chap, must be someone from the estates, but they are rarely proven and prosecuted, so will continue...............

just in from work, and yet again, the cowards as i put them strike again, i would love to come across one , maybe one day i will, if i ever venture up , and have a chat, my kind of chat, like ive put before fine the owner of the land, and every time one is found on the land , increase it by a £1000 at a time, then they might think twice about keeping their employees in line, sad people arent they. rossy.

Or ban all grouse etc shooting in the area for a number of years.

I.e take away the reason for the poisoning and punish at the same time.

But would this be likely with an Independent Scotland, now possible after todays elections?

It's the SNP who want to bring in Vicarious Liability for landowners. Perhaps repeated offenders should have their land confiscated and the estates then run by wildlife and/or conservation groups to the benefit of environment and local community.

There is a programme on BBC2 Scotland (Tuesday 10th May 9pm) .. “Fair Game? Scotland’s Sporting Estates” which investigates the link between poisoned birds of prey and Scotland’s sporting estates. Looks to be worth watching.

If you've got Sky TV, or one of the other digital set-ups, you can watch programmes from other BBC regions.

For example on Sky, the BBC (and ITV) regional programmes start at around channel 970. If you look in a TV listings magazine under "Regional Variations", they may well have a list of the alternate channel numbers.
