| | | scaredy cat Two doors down i have noticed tha blue tits have been nesting. Often i stand out early evening and watch the parents bring in food.. well tonight this afternoon i got home and had a little look and low and behold a cat was sitting right ontop of the bird box.. Action stations i thought , and with a little help of some small stones i hit the fence with them and the cat ran away.. phew , seconds later the parents came back with a beakful of food...

| | | Re: scaredy cat Perhaps have a word with the nest box owners, they may be able to place some wide hole chicken wire around the box to prevent the cat sitting on top but allowing the birds access, I own a cat and also have blue tits nesting in a box that he hasn't discovered yet touch wood! saying that it is in a strange place right under the porch so I don't think he could get to it let alone sit on it if he tried |

| | | Re: scaredy cat I have just experienced a similar thing, the cat next door has discovered our box and can nearly reach it from the fence, so i asked my cat loving sister for advice of how to deter the cat, and she suggested that i wet the cat with the hose, which I have done twice now, not hurting it, but now when I open the back door and put a foot outside it runs away so hopefully it will keep it away. It does bemuse me though, because of a cats 'natural' behaviour we have to tolerate it trespassing in our garden!! |

| | | Re: scaredy cat My son has something called a Nerf gun. It is a child - safe toy that shoots soft foam rubber bullets which make a high pitched whine when in the air. He has been aiming out of the upstairs window at unwanted cats, and it really panics them without hurting them. They cant tell where these objects are coming from and the noise really freaks them out. So far, highly effective. |

| | | Re: scaredy cat I put plastic spikes on the fence and also on top of the birdbox so kitty can't get up there. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
