I have come to that conclusion, thank you for your help

Which is the most likely in the area at this time of year Harris Hawk of Rough Legged Buzzard?

| | | Re: Unidentified large bird of prey seen today (w/ photo) Just for info. I was taken in by a very large bird of prey in my back garden. It was definately eagle like and sized with nicely patterned wings in soft browns. -Kind of owl like plumage. When it flew off it had white patch UNDER it`s tail that identified it as young Golden Eagle. I would never have id`d it but for that white patch though.
Never rule anything out.

I guess we will never know for sure |

I guess we will never know for sure | Given the number of Harris Hawks used by falconers + it's one of the main species used to scare pigeons, I think this is most likely. Quite a few escape + manage to survive in the wild.
As mentioned previously on WAB a pair tried to breed in the wild + possibly would have been successful were it not for human intervention. There have also been records of mixed pairs with Buzzards. |

Even if the "Crow" was a "Raven" it would not be small enough to make your bird a Golden eagle. I was merely giving an example of how variable birds can be an so we should never discount anything.
