| | | Re: Gulls nesting on my balcony again My resident gull family seems to be doing very well.
They get through quite a lot of the fresh water I provide for them. I put some out about three hours ago, and about half of it has gone. They can drink salt water, if necessary; the salt is extracted from their blood by a gland in the head, and excreted via the beak. |

| | | Re: Gulls nesting on my balcony again Hi Leon, delighted to know they're still around and doing so well!
I guess they're still hassling you for food as well as enjoying the clean drinking water.
Do you ever see them washing their beaks in the water these days?
If you've any recent pics I'd love to see them! |

| | | Re: Gulls nesting on my balcony again The two adults seem to be losing their winter plumage, which is rather strange.
As usual, they disappeared for a few days during the recent bad weather. The two youngsters don't often turn up at the same time, but I think that they are both OK.
They still wash their beaks.
I fed them first thing, and they are demanding to be fed again, about four hours later.
I'll see if I can get some more photos. |

| | | Re: Gulls nesting on my balcony again The gulls seem to be coping OK with the cold weather. Frozen water in their water bowl seems to confuse them, they keep pecking at it. They beg for food as usual, but they don't seem to eat it immediately. When I put it out they fly off, presumably to get some proper food, and eat thge food I've provided later on. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
