Vets do not usually have the time or the facilities to care for wildlife and therefore probably their only advice would be to end its suffering. As you do not have the opportunity to xray the leg to see where the damage is and how bad, you will probably find it very difficult to fix it yourself, and ensure it is capable of healing properly to be able to survive in the wild. Is there a wildlife rescue centre locally that you could contact? These centres have the time, space and facilities to adequately care for and rehabilitate wild birds, and will be less likely to just put it to sleep. Even if you can successfully splint the bird's leg, you would need to care for it for several weeks to ensure it was fully healed, and by that time it may become too "humanised" to release.
Get some advice from the experts who will know how to do this properly.
Good luck! |
