| | | RSPB Elmley: Lapwing Chick I met someone yesterday who told me the manager of RSPB Elmley had passed on the news that he had just seen the first Lapwing chicks of the season on the reserve.
And today I was pointed in their direction! They were very close to the access road, where I always follow the "do not leave your cars, but feel free to use your car as a hide" rule.
On my side of the road were 4 little ones with one adult. And I noticed at least two more with another adult on the other side of the road at the same location.
Quietly watched "my" four for half an hour before their adult slowly lead them off. Wonderful watching. But not easy to get a clear shot of any of them as the little loves were dwarfed somewhat by the vegetation.

I'm envious!

I guess that is how they have evolved. Maybe something to do with having to be able to walk almost as soon as they have hatched. Others will put me right on that I know.

| | | Re: RSPB Elmley: Lapwing Chick I had look yesterday but didnt see any chicks.
I did see yellow wagtails, skylarks and sandpiper on the road. Sadly I also saw one bloke half out his door (just about ok) but also some pillock who decided to get out his car with his binoculars and kit lens and walk towards some oystercatchers |

Sorry you didn't see the Lapwing chicks. Hope the Harrriers haven't had them.
