| | | I.D. bird please the other morning i spotted two ducks on the neighbouring rooftops,their behaviour was unusual ,alighting on chimney pots and poking their heads down them (i kid you not).the picture isnt of good quality.  you can zoom to a certain degree hopefully it will be enough.

| | | Re: I.D. bird please The photo's not great, but I think they might be Mandarin Ducks. They nest in tree holes, though I've never heard of them using chimneys (but then Jackdaws do). Great record, if it is Mandarins.
Another possibility is Wood Duck. Both are not native - Wood Duck is American and is not yet fully established as a feral bird, but there are several thousands pairs of mandarins breeding in the south-east. |
