Choose the name and classification you prefer - sometimes included as a subspecies of Great Horned Owl (which would make Dogghound and Deb London correct), sometimes treated as a species in it's own right.
Edit: I'm not sure how this would be told apart from other races of Great Horned Owl, or from some other Eagle Owl species such as African Spotted Eagle Owl (or even hybrids) though - and if the rescue centre owner has based the ID on what he was told it was when he was given the bird then it may not be correct (especially if he may have been told the wrong sex!).

It was a beauty  | Although as I tend to favour the taxonomy and naming in Clements as a world bird list, Dogghound and Deb London were correct first with "Great Horned Owl". Quote:
