Most of all they where flying. I have only been taking pictures since last week. Already I have pictures of blue tits, great tit, chanffinch male and female, goldfinch, blackbird, wood pigeon, sparrows, starlings.
would like to get a woodpecker.
does anyone know of any places to find one around west sussex.
Thankz
Sweet Pea

I don't know your part of the country, but you shouldn't have much difficulty finding woodpeckers if you go to the right sorts of places. Head for your local park or any well-wooded countryside and you should find Green and Great-spotted WPs, and if you're really lucky, Lesser-spotted.
This is a good time of year to find WPs, with no leaves on the trees. They're also starting to get into breeding mode now, and can be very active and noisy. Listen for a nasal, rather indignant-sounding "tchick! tchick!" from GSW, and a loud, laughing call from Green (you'll know it when you hear it).

Have you tried Buchan Park which is on the left as you leave Crawley on the way to Horsham.
Although i only heard them in 2005 i had seen several Green Woodpeckers the year before.
But checking the sightings list outside the ranger/visitor centre quite often noted sightings last year so they are about. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
