Collared Dove with a sore throat?

Hi all. Over the last week or two I've been hearing the oddest Collared Dove call, it's the usual coo cooocooo, but very harsh sounding, like a Collared Dove with a sore throat! What is it? A messed up Collared Dove? We have a LOT of them around here, had up to 10 in my very very tiny garden.

Oh dear, try putting some strepsils out for it?

lol sorry, not sure although I think I know what you're talking about, I have heard the same thing around here. Maybe it's just something they do occasionally?

It's not. We have a lot of both, all calling with each other. The Collared Dove sore throat one gets replies from other Collared Doves!

The tone reminds me of a pheasant! It's like a pheasant doing Collared Dove.

I did see a pair of very rough beat-up looking Collared Doves being chased around all the gardens by a healthy pair of Collared Doves, maybe it's one of them?
