During my butterfly transect at Strumpshaw Fen today we found a bunch of birdwatchers in one of the hides watching a male Ferruginous duck. I didn't have a good camera with me but this is the best shot I could get. 
Wish I had had my good camera.

Good record shot of this handsome diving duck. Records of this species are often problematic as genuine wild birds undoubtedly occur from eastern Europe, but it's also a popular collection bird + inevitably some do escape.
I think this individual is being considered as a wild bird, but always difficult to prove without a ring. Nonetheless I'm sure it really brightened up your butterfly transect. |

Yep! It certainly brightened up my day. It is always interesting to watch a bird Iv'e not seen before. He reminded me of watching a great crested grebe!
