| | | A Ferruginous duck During my butterfly transect at Strumpshaw Fen today we found a bunch of birdwatchers in one of the hides watching a male Ferruginous duck. I didn't have a good camera with me but this is the best shot I could get.
Wish I had had my good camera.

| | Re: A Ferruginous duck Good record shot of this handsome diving duck. Records of this species are often problematic as genuine wild birds undoubtedly occur from eastern Europe, but it's also a popular collection bird + inevitably some do escape.
I think this individual is being considered as a wild bird, but always difficult to prove without a ring. Nonetheless I'm sure it really brightened up your butterfly transect. |

| | | Re: A Ferruginous duck Yep! It certainly brightened up my day. It is always interesting to watch a bird Iv'e not seen before. He reminded me of watching a great crested grebe!
