What is leucistic | Leucism is a lack of pigment, so animals are paler/whiter than normal. A form of albinism, but this bird is obviously not a true albino which would be all white with pink eye. Melanin the dark pigment does confer strength to feathers, but this chap (or chappess) looks healthy enough! |

Not the camera that is the colour it was>I looked out the window and at first I thought it was a gull in the corner of my eye but it was sat on the bird table.Grabbed camera and quietly opened the back door.It stared at me then flew up the garden further and landed on my washing line.My back garden is 70ft long I took 1 photo took a step then took another taking a slow step between.Pity I couldnt get just a bit closer but was thrilled I got it at all.It was such a pretty colour sort of creamy white with a sort of coffee colour markings. It was georgeous.I had added more feeders to the garden and was getting more birds so perhaps it will come back one day I do hope so

| | | Re: Id needed please Patial albino/leucistic sparrowhawk seems most likely.
I found a host of examples of albino birds at:
messybeast.com/albinism/albino-trio2.jpg
including a really poor quality image of a white sparrowhawk! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
