| | | help identify a bird helppppppp!!
Sorry for the vagueness of this.
over the past few days i have seen several of these birds in the farmers fields when out walking the dog. They are a bit smaller then a gull i would say and have a white underside but going across the back of the wings is a large black band that goes from wing tip to wing tip. they are very nimble and quick
they have a very strange call which i dont ever recall hearing before. This may well be a very common bird but it is driving me nuts trying to find out what it is
please bear with me i am trying to find out how to upload a sound file
Thanks
Gary |

| | | Re: help identify a bird Hi,
No not a lapwing, been through the rspb site listening to calls etc but cannot find it. It has a very unusual sounding call.
And thanks for the welcome |

| | | Re: help identify a bird You don't say where you are but birds with such a description in farmers fields could possibly be Lapwings. Have a look Here
The description on the link shows the wings as green but in real life they look very dark, almost black.
Hope this helps |

| | | Re: help identify a bird I tend to upload sounds to YouTube (granted, mine always have video attached). Not sure what other people do.
I don't mind if you send me the sound by email, but I am quite useless usually.

| | | Re: help identify a bird yes that's a lapwing, that's the display song you're hearing usually made when whizzing up and down in the sky and just above the ground like a mad thing!
