cleared out a failed clutch today after noticing a lot of fly activity around the nest shelf

Looks like a Blackcap or Whitethroat, but its hard to say with out knowing the size of the egg and location of the nest.

Looks like Robin to me (the eggs on the pale side). Whitethroats are not in North Yorkshire on territory yet (in significant numbers) and have different looking chicks with less down. Blackcaps are only really starting to establish territories at the moment and there are few females here so far plus the eggs are more mottled and again the chicks lack the down.
