| | | A helping hand Not every one agrees with this level of interference, but I cant help myself. A Blackbird built its nest in a really open part and there is a Carrion Crow nests that looks right in to it. The Crow that isnt incubating the eggs regularly sits on this tree and its only a matter of time before it spies the nest. Its just laid her first egg this morning and all Ive done is placed 3 Holly bush cuttings in front of the nest. they arent as close to the nest as they look. A pretty simply job that will hopefully result in the blackbirds rearing a brood that they never really stood a chance of doing with out my interference. |

| | | Re: A helping hand good luck fudgey, but pound to penny the crow will have already been watching the blackie build the nest, rossy. quick question , has the female been back on the nest , since you placed the holly ?

| | | Re: A helping hand Im sure it will have been watching Rossy, but hopefully now that its covered it will forget. I think they will be more prone to taking young than eggs so by the time they have hatched the tree with the Crows nest will have plenty of leaves on and this will put a screen up between the Crows nest and the Blackbirds. I am pretty confident it will amke it. Yeah She was on yesterday and this morning Rossy. As long as you only do it bit by bit she wont mind. Here is a question for the experts. I was under the impression (except Birds of Prey) that they laid an egg each day and started incubating once the whole clutch was laid. I walk past this nest many times each day and yesterday She was on half the time. Any thoughts any one? |

| | | Re: A helping hand yes fudgey , she will continue to be on and off, till the last egg has been laid, then she will sit tight, but will come off occasionally, they have or it appears a built in clock which lets them know its time to return, so the eggs are kept warm or at the right temperature, rossy. |
