| | Which Warbler Five photos of warblers, all different individuals that I photographed during the last five days, and within 25 miles of my home in south-east Herts.
So what species are they?
Feel free to also comment on possible subspecies if you like as well .
All were singing and/or calling so I already have a good idea what they are, but how easy is it from these photos? (Most won't be difficult for some of you).
Have fun! I'll give some answers in a day or two!
Warbler 1
Warbler 2
Warbler 3
Warbler 4
Warbler 5 |

| | | Re: Which Warbler Heh good challenge! I'll have a guess at:
1) Common Chiffchaff
2) Willow Warbler
3) Reed Warbler
4) Sedge Warbler
5) Cetti's Warbler?
I think I have the 5 birds but not in the right order! 2 & 5 look the same
Actually I think 3 might be Cett's but can't think what 5 would then be! I'm sure none of them are Wood Warbler. hmmm....
Changing again:
1) Common Chiffchaff
2) Wood Warbler
3) Reed Warbler
4) Sedge Warbler
5) Cetti's Warbler?

| | | Re: Which Warbler Well they are all willowchiffs of one sort or another. Will have to have a closer look when my head has cleared a bit. I'm guessing one of them might be an Iberian Chiffchaff
Cheers,

| | | Re: Which Warbler Ahhhh I see I misread the post, I thought you were saying they were all different species Duh!
OK then so now I think:
1) Common Chiffchaff ( Phylloscopus collybita collybita)
2) Iberian Chiffchaff ( Phylloscopus ibericus)
3) Cetti's Warbler ( Cettia cetti)
4) Willow Warbler ( Phylloscopus trochilus trochilus)
5) Common Chiffchaff ( Phylloscopus collybita collybita)

However, I can't really critisize I'm not even attempting to ID them I'm sticking with willowchiffs for all!!

| | | Re: Which Warbler Well, I will stick my neck out and am prepared to be shot down, but I would say that they are all Chiffchaff Phylloscopos collybita, but I think one or two may be continental subspecies probably tristis. I know that Iberian and Siberian Chiffchaffs have been present in the last fortnight, but I really am not into splitting so wouldn't like to say further.
Cheers,
Adam
(I expect one of them will turn out to be a Willow Warbler knowing my iffy eyesight) |
