Waxwings not left yet!

There are still loads of Waxwings around in S.Essex. Considering they arrived in November I wonder if this a record length of stay. I know it's probably been the largest influx on record but I wonder what the latest recorded date is for one staying.

I saw a couple the other day too. Would it be possible with so many this year that some might stay and nest here?

Waxwings, like redwing and fieldfare, will sometimes linger into May. I've never seen any myself this late, but I have seen both of the latter species locally (Cheshire) in May. The final post in this thread might interest you:

I was discussing this with someone yesterday. They were still around in South Essex, at least till Monday

Fieldfares have bred in Britain..waxwings still here in Northumberland, got a hundred or so images today, 14th April

still a few reports in notts, in fact i think darrenm reported some from netherfield lagoons last week...

Still a flock of a hundred reported in S.Essex. Noted though that they don't breed until June so still plenty of time to get home.
