| | | red legs.... On my way to golf yesterday, passing fields looking around as i do now , looking out for the birds ..( i wasnt driving) when all of a sudden in a filed i see 2 birds... what hit me was the red legs... then i caught a split second glimpse of there bodies , all black , i see no white on them , then after breaking my neck trying to study them more, we had passed them... ...they were the size of a moorhen i would say , but after looking in my guide book , nothing stood out , that had red legs..
any ideas please?
( make me sleep better)

Oystercatchers can look all black from behind. They have very red legs.

Silhouette, behaviour and call just the same as ours though.
Seen from the back and quickly I think one could easily think an European oystercatcher was just black; especially if the light was poor, or in shadow. |

| | | Re: red legs.... Yes, but two in the same field next to each other, not sure
If I had to pick, I'd go with Oystercatcher on this one. But maybe leave it as unknown, drive past the field again this week
