| | | New Great Crested Grebe Family. Today I was at Whisby Nature Park. There's a pair of Great crested Grebes Nesting right in front of one of the hides.
Unfortunately the birds are a fair distance away so I apologise for the poor quality of the shots.
It soon became obvious that they have four newly born youngsters to feed. They're very interesting birds, the male does just as much so far as feeding and caring for the young as the female. The adults take turns to sit on the nest whilst the other bird goes and feeds and fetches food for the chicks.
Here's a few shots showing some of this action.
Time for a change over.
They were left form only a very short time without the protection of one of the parent birds.
I was hoping for a shot of the birds going for a ride on their parents back, but not today. |
