| | | Tree and House sparrow together I've just realized we have quite a few Tree sparrows in our garden. Here's one with a House sparrow. |

| | | Re: Tree and House sparrow together Lucky you- both have undergone dramatic declines, so a real thrill to have both species in your garden. |

| | | Re: Tree and House sparrow together We`re fortunate to have reasonable numbers of both species around Market Weighton but not usually together. The demarcation lines are fairly predictable with birds only venturing further afield and sometimes overlapping but never mixing, after the breeding season. However; the harsh winter did bring Tree Sparrows into gardens more, but they tended to keep to the fringes of the feeding birds.
Cheers

| | | Re: Tree and House sparrow together Agreed, I was thrilled to see a couple of pairs of house sparrows feeding alongside my tree sparrows.

| | | Re: Tree and House sparrow together Three or four years ago I said to my wife that I hadn't seen or heard a sparrow for years and now it looks as though they are back, including the more endangered Tree Sparrow. I like to think that our regular feeding has helped.
It makes me cringe to now remember those days in the late 60s when sparrows were more plentiful and myself and my best mate Dave, as 12/13 year olds used to patrol the hedgerows with our 177 air rifles, shooting sparrows |

| | | Re: Tree and House sparrow together Excellent that tree sparrows are in Leeds. Is it a suburban garden or rural fringe?
A big flock of both here, but I'm very rural, with forest on one side and arable on the other. And both species nest under my roof tiles and in the sparrow terrace. They seem to coxist quite happily.
The house sparrows love the pile of newly grubbed out blackthorn to sit around in, very safe and only a hop from the just dug flower beds for their dust baths ... trouble is, it is on my lawn so will have to be moved .... |
