| | | Your going to have to take my word for it Sorry the photo is rubbish - I spent too much time looking through the binoculars and by the time I got camera it was leaving, but the photo is a buzzard.
It was taken on Saturday from our back garden in London.

| | | Re: Your going to have to take my word for it I often get them passing overhead on a warm, sunny day, usually small groups of up to five. The call is what alerts me to their presence.

| | | Re: Your going to have to take my word for it I find I hear them more often than see them at first, if you see what I mean. Their calls alert me to their presence, prompting a scan of the sky, and they're often very high up. Way too high for a photo.

| | | Re: Your going to have to take my word for it I was at a falconry centre yesterday handling a Eurasian eagle owl and watching a Pere/Saker falcon and Steppe eagle display. As soon as the guy brought the falcon out the buzzards arrived high above, there was 7 of them visible at one point, all within minutes, the falcon was very nervous whilst feeding. Always a spectacular sight watching wild buzzards riding thermals, welcome to spring/summer, you will see them every and anywhere nowadays. ) |

They seem to be doing well everywhere. As Britain's most common raptor that's to be expected Hopefully other raptors will start to increase just as well.

| | | Re: Your going to have to take my word for it Yep, seems to be loads of buzzards around at the moment (round our way, anyway). As mentioned above, their 'mewing' call is a good indicator that some are nearby, although it carries a long way. I find the best viewing can be had on a sunny day with a bit of cloud, they seem to be lower then.
Fantastic birds and one of my favourites.
Cheers. Nik.

These two were taken today at extremely long range.

| | | Re: Your going to have to take my word for it I see Buzzards regularly, circling above the golf course and woods above Bakewell. I love that sort of eerie call they make. Unmistakable!
