| | | Carrion Crow question About half an hour ago I seen a Carrion Crow plucking and eating a Woodpigeon in the middle of a Scots Pine tree. Is this unusual? I have never heard of crows killing large birds or am I wrong? Any thoughts would be appreciated, cheers.

| | | Re: Carrion Crow question chances are the woodpigeon was already dead and the crow was just scavenging, something they'l readily do with dead things of all sizes. |

| | | Re: Carrion Crow question Nicola, I would also say it was either a scavenged dead bird or possibly a sick bird polished off. I've read of Crows killing adult Lapwings, but such behaviour is unusual- I normally see the Lapwings chase off Crows to protect their nests.
One of the reasons corvids are doing so well these days is the abundance of roadkill- drive up any major road + it's littered with dead Rabbits, Foxes, Pheasants, etc. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
