| | | Viewing snipe (or not) After having excellent views of a snipe feeding on Saturday morning, and having almost trodden on one shortly afterwards, I made a special trip to the same place early on Sunday morning to see these mercurial waders again, forsaking in the process a much-needed lie-in.
Having approached as stealthily as possible I went down the earthen bank to the hide entrance but unfortunately stumbled over a tree root. This put any birds in front of the hide to flight, including 5 or 6 snipe, and "ag-ag-ag-ag" off they went, zig-zagging away over the reedbeds/marsh. They didn't come back for the hour and a half I was there. Gutted.

Snipe are great birds, and you don't normally notice them until you stand on them
I went to Kempton NR a couple of weeks back and we saw 16.
Hope you find them again!
