Here along the Selsey stretch of the West Sussex coast, where House Sparrows can still be referred to as Common Sparrows, we have hundreds of the little devils. They are noisy and numerous in the hedgerows during autumn and winter and nick all the prime nesting sites, which includes the artificial sites designed to attract Swifts and Swallows. I guess those that didn't fly north came south like the hundreds of retired people who have chosen to live here.
