This bird was spotted in our garden in Norwich, Norfolk. We have never seen anything like it and are looking for help in identifying it.   |

Looks like an American quail to me perhaps Callipepla californica (escaped from someone's aviary)  attractive bird I think.

Its a California Quail most likely an escapee. |

My little book tells me the male (which this is) Gambels has a black belly spot and that they are close, but I suspect the light brown forehead shows it to be a California male escapee.
But have a look to see.
It also looks to have a ring on the left leg - see if you can get the number, there will be an internet connection to find it (cagebirds and so on) others will know more than me about that!
