| | | Brambling? Pretty sure it is but just wanted to check with you guys. I first realised it wasnt a chaffinch as it was on the feeder and they almost never use them. It was joined a bit later by another which looked exactly the same, would they be both the same sex?
Ok think that's me nearing my limit for finches. Also saw a wren in the garden today which is a first for me. With all the snow we have the birds are feeding with gusto. |

| | | Re: Brambling? Brambling! Looks like a male to me, females aren't quite so brightly marked, the female's grey bits are lighter.
Interesting that you say Chaffinches don't often use the feeders, in my garden most do.
I've just come back in from filling the sunflower feeders again, we've had a lot more birds in the garden today, probably due to the snow which is now 4 inches deep and still falling.
Regards, Audrey. |

Regards, Audrey. | Yup I don't know why, they prefer to stay on the ground or when I had the feeders in the pine trees they would potter about in the lower branches eating what the siskins dropped. Most of the other small birds use them except the chaffs and I don't think I've seen the bullfinch pair use it.
Thanks for the positive ID guys, im pretty chuffed with them |
