| | | blurred photo of merlin or sparrowhawk ? I was taking a photo of a stonechat in the gloom this morning when a grey blue flash appeared. The stonechat dived in the grass , while this bird of prey dived after it.After a few seconds the bird of prey rose a few feet to get another look and dived again.A crow then rushed in as the bird of prey took flight.I do not know if the stonechat was caught or escaped.I never saw it re appear, however an hour or so later i saw another pair a few hundred yards away,i hope it was the same pair.I cant decide if it was a male merlin or male sparrowhawk. Both have been seen here regularly . I only saw the happenings through my camera and was all over in a few seconds. |

| | | Re: blurred photo of merlin or sparrowhawk ? The wings appear to be long(ish), and the tips pointed, which would suggest Merlin.
