| | | What would Carrion crows, Jackdaws take from humans? Have seen quite a few of these birds around my garden and was wondering what they would eat? Bread? Biscuits? Currants? Any help appreciated. |

| | | Re: What would Carrion crows, Jackdaws take from humans? Crows will eat almost anything and not very fussy either. Their favourite foods is scraps and fat, but bread and biscuits are good as anything to hand.
I often, mainly in the winter months, when I cycle to work around late afternoon, feed the Crows. This is bread, left-over chicken, meat and rarely biscuits.
I've been feeding the Crows and Magpies now for 5 years and most of them have got to know me.
However, in the Summer months, I don't feed them much as there is plenty of insects, grubs and small frogs in the area to pick from.
But, I do enjoy watching them hanging around the trees, lamp standards waiting in the wings (pardon the punt) and swooping down very gracefully to a feed. |

I have made a habit of feeding Corvids, wholemeal bread, cat food, peanuts, sunflower hearts, mixed grain, chopped veg (some eat it some don't) Christmas cake etc. most need extra on the shorter days of the year or when the weather closes in. Next door has annual resident Jackdaws so I feed for babies, (and mum) i.e. no peanuts and a few treats on my nearby garage roof

| | | Re: What would Carrion crows, Jackdaws take from humans? I used to skim 3 digestive biscuits out for a crow in the garden. It used to pick one up, place it on another and pick the two up, then place the two on the last one, pick the three up and fly away.
The _really_ smart thing was it always used to pick up the biscuit nearest the house first and work away to the one furthest from the house. This tactic meant it spent the least time near the house - it being a possible source of danger. Many adult humans would have difficulty working this one out!

| | | Re: What would Carrion crows, Jackdaws take from humans? They certainly a'int daft, the sad old crow that spent the hard winter days here would eat the first offering, then take the rest to a "secure" area of the garden and either eat or bury "for breakfast" before it went off to its roost.
