Hi Steve,
Technically it is a White Wagtail in your first image, but only because Pied Wagtail is a race of White Wagtail!
Your photo shows a female Pied Wagtail (possibly a first winter bird?). White Wagtails (the continental alba race), typically show much cleaner flanks, without such obvious grey, and less extensive black on the rump (just about visible between the wings). The few darker feathers on the back also points to Pied - although there are some records of apparent alba White Wagtails that have some darker feathers here.


The gull is a Great Black-backed Gull.

I think the first photo is a female Pied Wagtail Motacilla alba yarrellii, the grey back looks quit blotchy rather than the clear grey of a White Wagtail Motacilla alba alba.
I think the second photo is indeed a Great Black-backed Gull Larus marinus
