| | | Under a tree After being made redundant I as protocal have to sign on to help my redundancy claim. Anyway I had ten mins to spare and so headed for the nearest grren space. And was so glad I picked this spot. I had the best view of a Wren scouring this old tree with some good results turning over spiders and insects so busy so nice to watch. Then he moved onto a rather ambitious caterpillar and was very savage about taking it apart, headbuts beak thrashing, stabbing. A Blackbird spied the struggle and started to intercept but the Wren took of carrying its lunch. Next was a Great Tit exploring all holes and singing its heart out. Thank god for green spaces and parks they are not perfect but very important and are just enough to pop some delights into a day or lunch break. I sometimes wonder how our green spaces will fair in the future with such an emphasis on the consumer culture and expansion of people and building. I hope that in a thousand years the lineage of that Wren will still be battling the caterpillars... |

| | | Re: Under a tree During so many periods of my life, Harimau, I have been too busy to stand or sit and watch.
Now, I am able to look around me more, and the pure joy it brings is unlike any other. There is always something to see, every day and every hour, and the more one is calm, the more one notices beauty in a leaf, or a spider's web, or raindrops on a flower, really simple things, which so often in the past I have rushed by without even seeing them there!

| | | Re: Under a tree I'm worse than the children for 'daydreaming' during assembly. Not actually daydreaming, I'm gazing out watching the birds on the opposite roof, watching the clouds rushing by, noticing a beetle walking along a window ledge, seeing the local Fox creep into the grounds, whilst the 'quiet' has descended on the school, during this time.
I've been caught out though! They know what I'm like now, so I get a bit of ribbing from the staff. I like noticing things that perhaps others don't. Perhaps in a way, I'm worshipping the Lord, but differently.
That's my excuse anyway.

| | | Re: Under a tree How true. Since I retired from work almost a year ago now, I have rediscovered all the wonder I used to have about the natural world (helped by this great WAB community). I'm so relieved to have it back. I feared that 35 years with my nose to the grindstone, rushing about the city looking at nothing, might have destroyed it for ever. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
