Tawny owl just outside Oswestry

Last Wednesday, so 2/3/11, at about 10pm, an owl flew across the road as I was driving back to Ellesmere from Oswestry, n Shrops. It wasn't as pale as a barn owl but it was a similar size, so I'm assuming a tawny. Don't know a lot about owls!

I post this for two reasons: if it was a tawny, it's my first EVER sighting and also I know there are some people here who keep owl records so I thought it might be useful. I understand owls in general are having a hard time of it, especially given these cold winters.

It is always nice to see an Owl, as you say they have had a miserable time of it especially Barn Owls. We hear Tawnys around here but no sightings thus far.
