| | | Which Harrier please I'm about two weeks into bird watching and bird photography!
And not good at I'Ds yet.
I asked two expereinced bird watchers what bird this was whilst I was out on the Isle of Sheppey today. I took the photo leaning out of the car window on the approach road to Elmley RSPB reserve, (not allowed out of the car!).
One guy wasn't totally certain. The other felt it was a male hen harrier. Looking at the photos on the board at the Capel Fleet raptor point I tend towards the latter. But what do WAB experts say.
Thank you in advance. |

Nige | It enlarges when I click it!
And thanks for the comments one and all.
I like the photo, but think it is just very slightly out of focus. Not surprising. I was driving back along the approach road of the RSPB Elmley Reserve Centre, (not allowed to get out of your car), and it flew slowly across in front of me. I stopped, tried to get a focus through the windscreen (daft thing to do), then again as soon as it appeared in clear light above my open drivers door window. I probably should have waited until I was sure I was properly focussed and held firm on the birds face, but knew I didn't have the time. I guess I had just moved off the bird when I clicked.
I don't think it's a lack of sharpenss with the lens, (Nikon AF-S 70-300mm), as I've been testing that this week and it is pretty sharp at 300mm and max aperture.
Anyway. I am pleased with the shot. My best of a flying B.O.P. so far. Just got to improve on it now.
