Well it just goes to show what a little patience can do, mind you its no hardship spending a few hours outdoors in the sun with nature, would do it all day everyday if I could. I was so happy to get a good shot of this fella before he dissapears.

Lovely shot I'd be outdoors as much as I can too. It really lifts me. Even when it's grey outside it beats being in my house!

Excellent shot- there were hundreds of his mates at Welney; though a bit of a bachelor party as very few females there!

Really good shot, great detail and I like the complimentary colour in the water. I think I like the frame, I wonder what it would look like with a single black line around the image and the writing within? I suggest that because I have been doing the same thing, I have been going through my Digital PhotoCDs and there is one with free actions that puts a border around the shot and allows you to choose on text. Jon

Apparently the females just don't survive as well and there's always a male skew in the population once they reach here for the winter, at least that's what I was told.

Yes, I've been told most of the girls go to (hopefully) sunnier climes in France + Spain. I've noticed this skew everytime over the years I've been to Welney, yet around London this sex bias doesn't really seem to happen- guess it's warmer here!

i have a pair of red breasted pochards and they are ok but my first pair had a specific virus that killed them both at once i wonder if the males and femails remained together this virus would start up
