| | | Help with Bird identification Hi
New to the forum so please be gentle
I live in a new development next to the Staffs and Worcester canal, with a wetland on the other side of the property, yesterday I noticed a number of small birds swooping into the bushes on the towpath side of my property and I was wondering if someone could help me identify them.
Basicall they didn't stay long so I was unable to photograph them, but the two distinctive features were a thin yellow rim on the end of their tail feathers and what I can only describe as a "cuckoo like" feather structure on their heads.
There was at least 30 of them and they were swooping in to eat the last few berries on the bushes.
I have been through all of the usual photograph identification sites but I can't seem to find anything similar, so if you can help I would be most grateful.
Thanks

| | | Re: Help with Bird identification The behaviour, yellow tip to the tail, and 'feather structure' on the head all point to Waxwing. These have been fairly numerous all over Britain this winter. |

It sounds like a group of Waxwings.
Take care, Jason |

Paul | Its a lucky find so you're right to be chuffed! They were more numerous this winter but I still didn't see any!! in fact iot was probably over 10 years ago that I saw some and I'm out most winter doing bird surveys for work!!

Perhaps you are getting confused with the resident Grey Wagtail which also shows a lot of yellow on the underparts.
However I do believe the OP's birds were Waxwings! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
