| | | Help with list of birds in the UK in Winter much appreciated! Hello!
Recently someone said to me, "Why bother going out to watch birds in the winter, surely there's only robins and pigeons?" This has prompted me to do an art project that will be used in local schools.
I love watching birds, but I love my garden birds and it's only ever been a hobby (well, obsession really!) so I don't know much about migratory birds or other birds that haven't made it to my garden or local woodlands.
It would be great if someone could help me collate lists of the following titles:
- Birds present in the Winter (UK)
- Birds that leave the UK in the Winter
- Birds that pass through the UK in the Winter
They don't have to be totally comprehensive or with the latin names, just help with any of the lists would be greatfully received!
Thanks in advance!

For more detailed information on wintering species, refer to the BTO's Atlas of Wintering Birds in Britain and Ireland (1986) Previous atlases | BTO - British Trust for Ornithology

| | Re: Help with list of birds in the UK in Winter much appreciated! For me winter birding is one of the most exciting types with millions of wildfowl + waders wintering here plus flocks of winter thrushes, finches + this year a massive influx of Waxwings. Dull- I don't think so! |

| | | Re: Help with list of birds in the UK in Winter much appreciated! I agree, I love winter for bird watching! Without the additional garden foliage to contend with it's great for getting good clear views of the beautiful species that we have in this country.
Thanks for the two links above, they'll be very, very useful! |

British Birds - Illustrated Guide | Only having a quick look i couldn't see White-fronted Goose, Barnacle Goose, Common Chiffchaff, Canada Goose....
Does it not have all birds? Seems a bit incomplete |
