Spent most winters in the 80's and 90's traveling to Tregaron to photograph/film them and never thought at the time I'd see them within 5 miles of my house! |

I've only seen on in the wild here myself (If you like Red Kites you would love Germany - they are all over the place! ).
My bird of the day is actually several. I was out shopping when I saw a small skein of Canada geese heading for a local pond. I think I'll have to get myself over there soon and see what else has turned up .

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Mine today is a great tit nothing special, but to me it is as its the only one I have had in my garden for a few years.
Hope he sticks around for the winter at least.

| | | Re: Bird of the day! This morning rain was coming down in sheets when I got up , but there was still a little chorus of calling blackbirds, robins and wrens.
I love the sight of a male blackbird performing it's "dash" flight from the hedge to the woods or vice versa, trying to cover the open ground as fast as possible.
Then 2 pairs of crows ,a pair of pheasants , a song thrush and 9 wood pigeons appeared in the field.
"Bird of the day" however so far was Rusty the Cockerel wildly running down the drive in front of Mrs B's car, too stupid to run to one side: he ran right out onto the road but luckily turned tail and fled back up the drive without causing an accident!
All his hens were in a panic and to add to the kerfuffle a hen pheasant came zooming in over the hedge and landed among them.
Way too much excitement for one morning!

| | | Re: Bird of the day! i saw a wren this morning scuttling along the fence beside our feeder, then it jumped onto the feeding tray.
bornwild has apparently seen 2 blackbirds, 2 wrens, a great tit and a magpie all on the feeding station too. |
