My bird of the day is the male Blackbird that as we were pulling off the drive at 7.45am was lit up in our headlights sitting in my Holly bush munching on the berries. |

Yes we get kingfishers, goshawks, grey wagtails etc in our garden but we also love to watch the wrens and tits and also to hear the owls at night. I'm sure all birders do, just made me think a bit twas all

I watched for a while as this little bird struggled to kill, then eat a fair sized fish!

just our regular visitor, our little Robin, he's spent the day on and off my new feeding station having a good look round it while munching
Just nice to watch him on such a cold foggy day

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Definite bird of the year today. Coming home from walking the dogs at Llyn Clywedog (local reservoir in mid-Wales) a male henharrier flew across the road in front of us and settled in a field, maybe fifty yards away. An absolute first for me in this area, in fact I haven't even heard of them being around here and this was less than a mile from home. I'll be going back with the camera to see if he's still around as soon as I get a chance.

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Bird(s) of the day would have to be Red Grouse......absolutely loads of them!I've been out for a walk across the moors and along Derwent Edge today and can't believe how many there were. They're so noisy too!
Oh, nearly forgot...
As I got back to Fairholmes car park, I heard a sort of tapping noise in a tree.
I scanned with my bino's thinking there might be a Woody in it.
Then I caught sight of a little head poking out of a nest box which was fixed to the trunk. It was a Nuthatch!
Not sure what he was up to. Maybe hiding nuts for later!

Steve | A very nice bird to see, Steve!
By coincidence I was reading about Llyn Clywedog just the other day, on a web site by someone who walked the Glyndwr Way long-distance path that goes by it. |

I had Siskins visit here last winter, so I'm hoping they'll be back this winter. |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Thanks Pete, and Jez, I am really chuffed I watched most of the day today whilst cooking in the kitchen but did not see them, I know they are around because I have seen them in a friends garden (a mile away as the crow flies). this new seed smells of aniseed, really pleasant, so I went out yesterday and bought a 20kg bag! . It almost halved the price per kilo! |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! I had a great day birding at Fambridge in essex yesterday saw a whooper swan, berwick swan and a bullfinch all firsts. Then i had a prolongued view of a female marsh harrier hunting right in front of the hide i was in, i tried to get a few shots but unfortunately the light was poor and so were the quality of my photos. Then as i was leaving i saw a Peregrine Falcon swooping over the creek and marshes which topped all the other birds as that was also a first for me.
So my bird of the day was a peregrine faclon.
