This morning-in thick fog- I was walking through the local country park when I happened to look at one of the old oaks-couldnt believe it,even through the murk I knew at once I was looking at a Harris hawk.Managed to get some photos too!

ellen | I hope his owner gets him back pronto!
We had a medium-sized flock of long tailed tits turn up this morning. They were all over the picnic table and our small 'kitchen bay' which is very close to the porch. They didn't move until my Mum was quite close to them - cheeky blighters!

Lovely photo My bird of the day is a heron which I spotted on the roof of a neighbour's house. I was alerted to it when I heard some seagulls making a horrendous din at 6.15 this morning! The seagulls really did not like the heron being there, I wonder why? sorry there's no photo of it |

The sound + sight of these birds certainly deserve the collective noun of a charm! |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! My Bird of the Day was a Kingfisher, which I spotted flying along the Grand Union Canal at Cow Roast (between Tring and Berkhamsted, Herts.).
It was the first one I've seen for a couple of years or more. It was a very dark and grey morning, so I didn't pick up the bird's bright colours at first. I then saw it was red (darker than the orangey-red usually seems), then twigged what it was, but only then detected the blue as it went by. Often I've just seen them as a bright blue blur as they've gone by.
Further on I watched a Cormorant fishing in the canal - it was more successful than the anglers I passed! | |
