Re: Bird of the day!

it was quite dull at the time and they don't seem to have those nice pinky feathers as yet.

They are so quick i was having a coffee in the patio when i heard their distinctive birdie sound so i had to run like a DEMENTED BEAST to find my camera in the living room.

My bird of the day was a Hobby seen hunting over Cannock Chase. It was just stunning seeing this bird in action.

Re: Bird of the day!

A pair of Long-Tailed Tits where chasing eachother around the fir tree in my garden, which was comical. Unfortunately they were gone before I had time to grab the right camera.

I remember seeing Red-legged Partridges at Landguard when I lived in Suffolk. Always seemed an odd habitat for them, in amongst the shingle and so close to the sea!

This is my Bird of the Day from yesterday - a male House Sparrow. I mentioned a month or so ago that they had appeared in our garden after an absence of several years. I'm glad to say that I've seen them here almost everyday since, sometimes three or four together.

Red Legged Partridges are my least favourite birds of the year!

One ran out in front of our car recently, doing £330 worth of damage.

Simple Mark. Smashed through the front grill. The bird ended up behind a side panel, at first I didn't see it but the smell of roasting partridge soon got me to look further!
£85 for the grill, that's fine but the labour to fit it?

I haven't had it done yet. It's not a safety issue so I'm leaving it. Knowing my luck the moment I have it done another one would do the same trick!

Re: Bird of the day!

That`s extremely unlucky Graham, a bird of that size doing such damage. Hope you get it sorted...

The dumbest bird I've ever seen, I didn't stand a chance of avoiding it.
When I first saw it it was at the side of the road. Just as I approached it it ran out and then tried to take off, hence how it managed to hit the grill. I hate killing anything wild, but there was nothing I could do.

I didn't have the heart to eat it, even though it was complete. It didn't go to waste though, a friend has a Fox with young, this bird was a welcome change in its diet

Re: Bird of the day!

Saw a Kingfisher yesterday flying along the River Teme yesterday in Ludlow and then the Goldcrest that I had on my finger a few weeks back, returned to dip in a brook 2ft away from me down at Naomi's House!

Re: Bird of the day!

These young kestrels are soon to try their wings! Took these shots today(one of the moments I wish I had a dslr, still not bad shots for me!) there were four youngsters but one fell from the nest a week ago.
Hoping to see them learning to hover soon-always entertaining.

Re: Bird of the day!

Bird(s) of the day - 2 Oystercatchers in my back garden! What's that all about!? Typically, had my camera in the boot of the car, just in case I saw anything when I'm out and about Never thought I'd be needing it when I opened the curtains first thing - that'll teach me, I nearly always bring it in to download, etc from the day before. They flew off pretty much straight away but a definite first for my garden!
