| | | Re: Bird of the day! The most beautiful sparrowhawk that crashed into the hedge 10 feet from my conservatory window and glared at me with his big yellow eyes for not quite long enough for me to grab the camera before swooping off again. The closest view I've ever had of one, even if only briefly.
Lots of tiny heads popping out of the hedge now as the tits and finches check that he's really gone. |

Rather belatedly, this Great Spotted Woodpecker is my Bird of the Day for yesterday (though it was back again a couple of times today). It's a fairly frequent visitor, but this is the best photo I've managed so far - I like the photo, as it's a more natural setting than seeing the woodpecker on a feeder. |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! I finally had a goldfinch (just one) back on my nyjer feeder...when I first put it up it had attracted some immediately, but this is the first I'd seen this year, and yes, I had ensured it was cleaned out and topped up! I have no idea why they ignored it for so long!
Also saw a jay a couple of days ago, which we don't normally get here. |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! my bird of the (yester)day was the ten or twelve brambling I saw in Faringdon! I have only seem them twice before and then only as one or two birds but I was stopped in my tracks by a very strange song sounding like a cross between a greenfinch and a water rail now sadly I had decided to take my camera and not my bins on this walk (both are too heavy for a long walk) so I had to wait what seemed like ages before I got a good enough view to id the brambling brilliant - had a smile on my face for the rest of the day. Othe highlights of the walk was a nuthatch making a calll unlike one I've ever heard before - it sounded more like a parakeet so that's another lesson for me and I found a heronry by the unmistakeable chack-chack-chaking of the chicks. A good day |

Yep I'm WELL chuffed!

My Bird of the Day (so far!) is this Treecreeper, which I saw this morning while I was walking round the National Trusts's Ashridge Estate (on the Herts/Bucks border).
On the same walk I also saw (but couldn't photograph) Chiffchaff, Jay, Long-tailed Tit and Great Spotted Woodpecker, amongst others. |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Thanks Kayleigh. I was very lucky - I saw the bird fly across the path a few yards in front of me and land on a tree very nearby. It started quite low down on the trunk, gradually going up a few feet, and it was very accommodating in posing for its photo!
I hope you manage to see a treecreeper soon - they are always a delight to watch. |
