| | | Re: Bird of the day! My BOTD would be a Hoopoe seen at Winterton Dunes this afternoon. Didn't get good views as there was a bit of disturbance and it was a bit flighty. |

Not sure my bird of the day, haven't been out and don't get much in the garden, so Collared Dove - because they're better looking than Pigeons!

| | | Re: Bird of the day! A Jay - I have never had one in the garden before. Sadly, I think it was after 'my' baby Robins. Hopefully I managed to chase it away before it got anything. |

Yellowhammer on the clifftop, same location as above

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Cetti's warbler. Often heard but rarely seen, there were two males having a bit of a territorial dispute at Stodmarsh and they were oblivious to everything else, including the bloke with the camera...
I watched them for over half-an hour, during which time they were constantly calling, posturing at each other and chasing each other around the tree (not necessarily all at the same time). Even though I could see them it was extremely hard to get a clear shot of them and when I did the light levels were low. The end result could have been a touch sharper but I'm happy.
A close runner up were the hobbies - one of the reasons I went there in the first place...

| | | Re: Bird of the day! We found two unexpected birds in North London yesterday, both of which we think were nesting. I can't decide which should be the BOTD as they were equally pleasantly surprising.
The Kingfisher which resides along a suburban stream was a total and utter shock . A flash of blue and a high pitched call (maybe about 5.5 kHz) was all I experienced of this shy bird. I had heard that they will nest in this sort of area, but never seen it for myself.
Or the Lapwing, which gave much better views as it walked along the ridge of a field. I know the area to the other side of its field really well and visit at least once a month and I never knew it was there.
