Four of us are going to Lesvos in two weeks time and we are meeting up tomorrow to do a bit of birding at Coombes Valley first then onto somewhere for a pint and a chat about what sort of itinerary to do in Lesvos. Hopefully the birding part will get me a chance of a photo like yours as I know Pied Flys are there usually.

That'll only happen if Mrs Lewis has confiscated your gear and put in in a safe! And even then I'll put money on you not being able to get to the departure lounge without at least buy a disposable job!
Congratulations and have a lovely time

Congratulations and have a lovely time | If I take a camera the changes of us getting to the 26th anniversary are slim! plus I actually like the idea of no camera and no kids

| | | Re: Bird of the day! My bird of the weekend was a juvenile goldfinch being fed from my niger feeder by one of its parents on Saturday evening. The first juvenile I've ever seen. Unfortunately I had a glass of wine in my hand rather than the camera I've been lurking around with the camera to hand ever since, but of course they haven't been back yet.... |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! A little while ago, I posted a picture of a lady blackbird in our garden with a beak full of goodies for her babies.
These babies have fledged and the parents are now busy tarting up the existing nest for a new brood, This picture shows her gathering very wet leaves from one of our gutters. From the mess on the ground below, it looks as if I shall not need to clear the gutter for the winter.

| | | Re: Bird of the day! This Herring Gull is proving to be quite a character. Every evening, 5-7 he's here on my neighbours' roof. Other gulls are flying over him but he seems to be more interesting in the Jackdaws
From 7 til sunset it's the Blue Herons' turn to sit on the roof. The gull came back about 10 minutes ago and there was quite a lot of swearing but I wasn't quick enough with the camera .

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Yesterday I paid one of my intermittent visits to friends in east London. I walked from Stratford Bus Station to Bow; where the main road crosses the River Lea, there's a small colony of Sand Martins nesting in seep holes in the concreted river bank. I spent a most enjoyable ten minutes watching them flying around, occasionally settling on the path to feed on something. These are the only SMs I've seen so far this year. Quote:

The precise location isn't in the public domain, but I can guess where it might be.

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Jenny - you are so lucky; and what a lovely picture. My bird today is barn owl hunting for voles who entertained me on three separate occasions. Just as I was leaving, a green woodpecker landed on a pole and persisted in popping his head round the corner. Of course I took a picture and have nice shot of a crest, eye and the tip of his tail. The sound of my camera disturbed him and off he flew. I know we are advised to make the most of any photographic moment because you never know what will happen next. I do wish, however, that I had been more patient.

They are really quite strange especially when hammering that huge beak into the lawn. I find them really fascinating. They are also very nervous and fly off at the slightest disturbance.

| | | Re: Bird of the day! I haven't contributed too much to this thread of late due to being stuck indoors for so long. I thought I would post three photos from the last few days of birds that I have managed to capture an image of. The first is of the female Bullfinch that has started to visit the garden along with two males.
The second was a bit of a surprise as it was a young Song Thrush that had been bathing in the little stream I have in the garden. Unfortunately I have created an overgrown area around the stream so photos are not possible but it did fly up onto the fence and I managed to get one shot of it before it flew off.
Last two images are of two young Dunnocks. Two of many that are visiting my garden on a daily basis.

T2 | I know T2, I love reading the felixstowe birding reports that you posted a link for, thanks again
The best sighting was when one flew right in front of me when I was going over Princes St bridge
I have a feeling they are the town end of the orwell | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Hybrid Mode |
