| | | Re: Bird of the day! I was standing under a tall conifer sheltering from a downpour when a Goldcrest oblivious to my presence came with a couple of feet or so from me + then flew down to the ground close to my feet to retrieve an insect larva. It was quite scruffy in moult, but nice to see so close to. |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! A few today, though nothing especially unusual. Walking around the local unused golf course I looked at one of the small lakes for any waders- none, but then a Snipe flew over low calling- the first of the "autumn"! Good to see the Dabchick with it's 4 well grown juveniles doing well.
Across the road 5 young Swallows were sitting on the stable roof with parents catching insects for them. I was particularly pleased to see these as I hadn't seen them here earlier in the year + assumed they hadn't returned this year. The stable manager invited me in to see the now disused nest which was nice.
Later along the track in Ten Acre Wood was a Nuthatch feeding low down in a coppiced Hazel + then sat preening as it rained. It was a part of a loose flock of birds with tits, a pair of Blackcap + briefly joined by a male Great-spotted Woodpecker on a low bough.
Though I was eventually rained off, a nice morning's local birding! |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! As I was eating lunch, I looked out the back window and saw a female Sparrowhawk perched on the apple tree where we hang the bird feeders. It was off as soon as I saw it, and I couldn't see if it had caught anything.
Also, earlier, I saw some goldfinches on a feeder in the back garden. Good to have them back after an absence of a few weeks. |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Two goldfinches were perched on a wire outside my bedroom window when I opened the curtains this morning. Lovely to see - especially as they're infrequent visitors to my garden. |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Just usually get tits on the feeders in my garden, but last couple of days there's been a nuthatch regularly feeding there. Lovely little bird and not one I've seen too often. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
