| | | Re: Bird of the day! My star bird last week was the slightly bedraggled female sparrowhawk that flew in and sat on the garden gate for several minutes allowing me to view her through the binos. She seems to have a damaged eye, so I hope it doesn't prevent her from hunting successfully.
I often see her around the area but she doesn't visit the garden that often (luckily for the other birds). www.sussexnaturenotes.co.uk |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Greater Spotted Woodpecker posed for a while on the feeder today and an aggressive little LBJ which I couldn't identify was chasing everything else off. It was a Blackcap with a chestnut brown head - had me fooled for a while.
Yesterday for the birdwatch two tree sparrows and a female bullfinch were rare sightings for our garden but perhaps I don't watch often enough. |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Mine has to be a male and a female gadwall that I saw yesterday. They are a first for me.
Embarrassed to say I thought it was a mallard and a gadwall but the bird forum put me right. |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! My bird of the day (yesterday) was a peregrine in the centre of london. I was walking over Tower Bridge on the way home from work when i spotted the peregrine swooping low below the bridge.
It then landed high up on the bridge out of sight after which i looked round to see if anyone else had noticed it and everyone was totally oblivious. Made my evening anyway.
