My bird of the day is my Greater-Spotted Woodpecker who now seems fixated with the telegraph pole in the front garden and stayed long enough for me to get a few shots, but I thought this was the best one...
I have some of a blackbird and my little robin, which I took with my new tripod (I am sure it's quite wrong to love a piece of equipment this much ) but I haven't edited those yet.

Lovely long tail Beryl, looks like it's hanging on for dear life. |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Great shots of the Cirl Buntings Vinny, what a pleasure to have them visit your garden.
Very nice shots from Barbara, Beryl and Gaina as well.
My bird of the day today has to be this little Robin who was obviously nest building.

All the birds are looking soi dapper at this point in time. I expect at the end of spring they will look worn out and tatty |

Today I met another WAB member, jonesboy58. The day around Leicestershire with him produced a few birds of the day. Pride of place must go to the Peregrine, closely followed by a Green Winged Teal. We also connected with a few Red Kite (the most oooo has ever seen in Leicestershire) a lone Dunlin and a couple of Egyptian Geese plus a large number of Goldeneye on Eyebrook reservoir.
Unfortunately with the dismal and cold conditions that were with us meant that none of them could be photographed, well until the last bird that is.
We ended up near a village called Great Easton. This is a site where there is a possibility of Short-eared Owl. I was reliably informed that we would be getting there too early to see them as they don't come out until about 16:00 onwards, but unfortunately I wantede to be home by 3pm as I had some work to do on my garden pond. Still oooo wanted to know how we got there so I rang my mate Steve for directions and soon we were on site.
After a scan of the surrounding fields I was lucky enough to see a Little Owl perched on a large red farm machine of some sort. I managed to get within about 100 yards of it and decided to try for a Digiscoped shot (far too far for a DSLR shot). Unfortunately the day was so dismal that I had to go up to ISO 400, (which really is a bit too high for digiscoping). After taking a few photos I walked back to oooo and he had found another Little Owl about 50 yards away from its mate. This one perched on a log pile but just as I was about to take a photo it moved and became partially hidden by one of the logs. I tried for some photos but they haven't come out that well. Mind you I'm not surprised as I had to go up to ISO 800 for the last shots.
Below are a couple of the best images taken of the first Little Owl.
