Bird of my day yesterday over the coast path at Westward Ho! North Devon was a Green Woodpecker. Interesting for me to see as it was several hundred metres from any trees and then flew over the cliffs and back again. |

bornwild and captaincarot | Are you sure they were Yellow Wagtails + not Grey Wagtails which also show a lot of yellow? Most Yellow Wagtails will have already gone through on their migration as they are summer visitors only unlike our other wagtails. |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! No contest for my BOTD for yesterday as it would be one of those dream birds for any birder. it was a first for Britain and I think only the fourth for the whole of Europe.
It was an Eastern Crowned Warbler that had landed on Thursday at South Shields, County Durham. Thankfully all birders and photographers kept to a respectful distance and that, combined with the non stop movement of the bird conspired, to having no chance of photographing the little beauty.
However, what a back up cast for the day. two Yellow-browed Warblers, a drake Blue-winged Teal and my second Red-flanked Bluetail in a week. The latter I managed a record shot of in the most horrendous conditions. Torrential rain, ground level cloud cover and the bird deep under the tree canopy. Still as it appears to be a first for the Gallery I thought I had better post it onto here.

for me it was seeing the 2 nuthatches searching a tree together it's unusual to see one never mind 2 10 foot apart |

I would have passed that off as a Robin at first glance, well spotted. I saw the reports on the news about the ECW, what a lucky find that was, a few life ticks there I bet. |
