I was still in the car park and by the time I got my camera set up it had been scared off by a dog walker. But still, it's another "year tick" for me so I'm well pleased. I'm hoping to be able to tick either hobby or dartford warbler (or both ) tomorrow.
Dave P. | I sincerely hope you get to see both Dartford Warbler and Hobby tomorrow Dave - as I'm going to Thursley too!
I've only seen a few Treecreepers so far this year. Very sadly, a few days ago a juvenile Treecreeper had a fatal collision with our patio window - I've not knowingly seen a juvenile before, and I've only once seen a Treecreeper in the garden.
John, that must have been fantastic to have so many LTT's in your garden. I have never seen that many anywhere. |

Anyway, the Greater Spotted Woodpecker is now a regular feature on my bird feeder, although I don't he's paid a visit today with all the rain we had.
I'm so glad I bought that feeder!

| | | Re: Bird of the day! I do get a pair of Jackdaws visit my feeders on a fairly regular basis but up until now I have never seen their offspring visit until today when a pair of Juveniles were under the feeders on my front lawn.
I managed to get a photo of one of them before a passer by scared them off.

| | | Re: Bird of the day! My bird of today is a recently fledged bullfinch which was sat outside the french doors. Yesterday we had a female kestrel hunting in the garden & she flew off with a young rat. Isn't nature wonderful.

| | | Re: Bird of the day! well i have decided that i fell sorry for buzzards, because everything picks on them.
yesterday bornwild and i were stood half way up a mountain by the side of bassenthwaite when we heard a plaintive call, and round the side of the mountian came a young buzzard.
cue a reenactment of the battle of britain with the poor picked on buzzards taking one side and the osprey that was up to this point sat on it's nest and peering over the valley while minding it's own business taking the other.
i think at one point there were at least 3 buzzards and 2 or 3 ospreys attacking them.
considering we had gone to the lakes specifically to see the ospreys (the first time either of us had ever seen one) i think we might remember this for a bit.
add to that i saw my first red squirrels about half an hour befor it and well what can you say |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! A couple of Ravens on the New Forest this afternoon & this evening checked a couple of Goshawk sites. The first it looks like the Juveniles have moved on now & the second they are still about, calling for food & flying around. |

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Female Redstart near Dibden Inclosure, this one really confused as it made the same call as Willow Warblers. Had a great oppurtunity for photo but my camera choose to power save at the exact moment (Takes 5 seconds to turn back on) | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
