| | | Re: Bird of the day! My bird of the day is not the tamest robin I've ever met which came and sat on my boot and then on my knee. Instead it's the redpolls feeding in the alders. Another first for me and such beautiful birds. Angie said they look like sun-burnt sparrows!

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Yesterday I saw a Corn Bunting - a real-life Corn Bunting!
It seemed to be a male getting a little defensive of it's territory, but I don't know much about Corn Buntings, they are so bloomin' rare these days.

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Hi aeshna5, it was at Aldbury in the Chilterns. There was a renovated farm that seemed to have left a patch of weeds next to a barn, possibly for wildlife, because the rest of the farm was pristine.
I just had a panic, thinking that it might have been a Yellowhammer (F), but the colours in the second photo are misleading, I had a good view with the bins and it was definitely not yellow or yellowish.

| | | Re: Bird of the day! Not exactly the charm of goldfinches we saw at Rainham a couple of weeks back. I've googled it and the collective noun for pigeons is either a "kit" or a "loft".

| | | Re: Bird of the day! The Mistle Thrush is my bird of the day today. He/she sat proudly on a branch in full view of my kitchen window I didn't manage to get a photo as the window is very dirty due to garden works, but I did watch him and managed a distant photo from a bedroom window; I will try to post it tomorrow |
